About Our Church
History Of Our Church: God Healing Temple began as one of five churches bearing the name New Jerusalem Holiness Fellowship Church of God under Bishop Sellie Williams in March of 1976, in the home of Mother Armett J. Shepard and she was the Pastor. Shortly after its beginning the church was moved to a storefront at 85 Prospect St. This location was affectionately known as “The Hole In The Wall” because of its size. Following God’s plan and with Bishop Williams’s blessings, Mother Shepard decided to establish God Healing Temple after a convention of churches that year. The church steadily grew and soon outgrew its original location. It subsequently moved to a converted house at 89 Jefferson Avenue, where it remained until 1986. In 1986, the church was relocated to 422 Remington Street. Most recently, God Healing Temple can be found at 875 E. Main St., occupying the 3rd floor of the Auditorium Center.
Our Mission: To serve our community through worship opportunities and various programs addressing the spiritual and natural needs of all people, enabling them to lead prosperous lives.
Scriptural Foundation: “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” – John 10:10 KJV
Our Vision: To witness supernatural healing and witness individuals enjoying lives founded on grace and centered on Jesus Christ.
Scriptural Foundation: “The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all. Amen.” – 2 Corinthians 13:14 KJV
What We Believe: God Healing Temple is an independent Pentecostal Holiness church founded on the following principles:
- We believe in God the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit as the Comforter.
- We believe God is the creator of all things.
- We believe the Bible is divinely inspired by God.
- We believe in the gospel – the birth, life, death, resurrection, and second coming of Jesus Christ.
Statement of Faith: We are resolute in our belief that God provides and cares for us, entrusting all things into His hands. By persevering, He grants us strength when we are weak, enabling us to rise above adversities hindering us from witnessing the return of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Scriptural Foundation: “Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding. He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” – Isaiah 40:28-31
Additional Beliefs of God Healing Temple:
- Divine Healing: We believe in the power of divine healing through faith in Jesus Christ. We trust in God’s ability to heal physical, emotional, and spiritual ailments and affirm the practice of prayer for healing.
- Salvation through Grace: Salvation is a gift of God’s grace, not earned through works. We believe in the redemptive work of Jesus Christ on the cross, and through faith in Him, individuals are justified and reconciled with God.
- Holy Living: We emphasize holy living, guided by the teachings of the Bible. Our members are encouraged to lead lives that reflect the moral and ethical standards set by God, striving for righteousness in thought, word, and deed.
- The Holy Spirit’s Guidance: We rely on the Holy Spirit for guidance, understanding, and empowerment in our daily lives. We believe in the ongoing work of the Holy Spirit in the lives of believers, leading and empowering them for service.
- Community Engagement: As part of our mission, we believe in actively engaging with and serving our community. This includes providing support to those in need, promoting justice, and fostering a sense of community and love among our members.
- Sacraments: We recognize and celebrate sacraments such as baptism and communion as essential components of our spiritual journey. Baptism symbolizes the new life in Christ, and communion is a remembrance of the sacrifice of Jesus Christ.
- End Times and Second Coming: We anticipate the return of Jesus Christ and the fulfillment of God’s plan for the end times. We encourage a vigilant and hopeful outlook, preparing ourselves for the second coming of our Lord.
- Biblical Authority: We affirm the authority of the Bible as the inspired and inerrant Word of God. It serves as the foundation for our beliefs, teachings, and practices.
- Unity in Diversity: We celebrate the diversity of God’s creation and believe in fostering unity among believers regardless of race, ethnicity, socio-economic status, or background.
- Stewardship: We emphasize responsible stewardship of God’s resources, encouraging members to use their time, talents, and treasures in ways that honor God and benefit others.
These beliefs, combined with our core principles, guide our worship, community engagement, and spiritual practices at God Healing Temple.
